National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States. Membership is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. ETHS is proud to host the Lighthouse Chapter of NHS, offering juniors and seniors the opportunity to engage in meaningful service, develop leadership skills, and be recognized for their academic and personal achievements.
| Eligibility to Apply | |
|---|---|
| Grade Level | Juniors (only) are eligible to apply. If inducted, membership carries into senior year. |
| Grade Point Average (GPA) | Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher after Semester 1 grades during junior year. |

| Engagement | Demonstrate leadership, character, and active involvement in qualifying school or community activities. |
How to Apply for NHS Membership
Students who receive academic eligibility requirements will receive an email in late January inviting them to apply for NHS membership. This email will include instructions for attending a mandatory informational meeting, where students will learn about the application process, pick up the application form, and receive guidance on completing all required steps.
Overview of NHS Application Process
- Students must attend one (1) informational meeting. Meetings will be scheduled during AM Support, lunch blocks, and after school in order to accommodate different scheduling needs. Dates and times will be sent via email.
- Applications will be distributed at the informational meeting. Students must complete the application, listing ETHS and community activities that they participate in throughout the year. Students must submit a short essay along with the application.
- Students must earn and submit documentation of a minimum of 15 total community service hours in SchooLinks.
The application and all supporting materials must be submitted in person to Ms. Lane in E113 by the deadline provided in the informational meeting, usually the second week of April. For more information, see our FAQs below or email Ms. Lane at lanen@eths202.org.
