Community Service
Located in The Hub, the ETHS Community Service Office connects students with meaningful volunteer opportunities in Evanston and beyond. Whether you’re giving back to your community, exploring career interests, looking to earn service hours, or building skills for the future, getting involved is a powerful way to make a difference. Many college, scholarship, and job applications ask about community service because these experiences shape who you are—and who you are becoming.
At ETHS, our commitment to service is more than just logging hours; it’s about empathy, justice, and leadership. We support youth agency and leadership development by helping students become active, engaged members of their communities.

Community Service Club
The Community Service Club (CSC) is one of ETHS' largest student-run organizations, with over one hundred members annually. CSC is led by student organizers who plan monthly service events and activities for club members and other students, both within the school and the local community. Each month, committees partner with local and global organizations to address a variety of important issues, such as civic engagement, hunger, poverty, income disparity, international development, student welfare, tutoring, and more. These activities provide students with exciting and impactful opportunities to get involved while making a difference.
The club holds monthly meetings where students can learn about upcoming service events, sign up to participate, and connect with peers who share similar interests in giving back to the community. It’s a great way for students to get involved, make a positive impact, and build leadership skills while serving others. You can join at any time throughout the school year. For meeting dates and more information, visit the CSC Google Site.
Emerge Leadership Program
Emerge is a community ofactivists, changemakers, and leaders supporting each other to make an impact in Evanston. Offered in collaboration with the Northwestern/ETHS Partnership Office, Emerge is designed to help students explore identity, social justice, and their power to make change in their communities.
Through the initiative program, students gain the skills, resources, and support they need to identify an issue & develop a project with a community partner. Initiative is a 2-year program with monthly workshops around executive functioning, asset based community development, identity, and more culminating in the creation of a community-based project. Students are able to continue this work in the Sustainers program where they further develop and implement their projects.
Interested students can learn more and apply on the Emerge webpage.
