Psychology Office

At Evanston Township High School, our school psychologists play an important role in supporting students’ growth and development. As key members of each grade-level team, they bring specialized expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior. Our school psychologists work collaboratively with students, families, and staff to help ensure every student has the support they need to succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.

What is the role of a school psychologist?

A school psychologist is a licensed mental health professional who helps students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally by providing support, conducting assessments, and working in partnership with families and school staff. Psychologists are consultants and collaborating, helping to coordinate services and develop strategies that help students grow and succeed.

Psychologists at ETHS provide support in the following areas:

  • Providing individual or small group counseling
  • Supporting students with emotional or behavioral concerns
  • Helping students manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional regulation
  • Conducting and interpreting psychological, academic, and social-emotional assessments
  • Using data to identify learning challenges and designing academic interventions
  • Conducting psychological evaluations as part of the Special Education process
  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborating with teachers, families, and other support staff
  • Providing crisis response and supporting student safety
  • Helping families understand their student’s unique learning needs

Psychologists

Our school psychologists are assigned to specific grade levels. This allows them to build relationships and work closely with students and families over time.

When to Connect with Your Psychologist

Most students are referred to a psychologist by their counselor. If you believe your student may benefit from psychological services or an evaluation, please contact their counselor.

Students may be referred to a psychologist when:

  • A student is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties that are impacting their learning.
  • There are concerns about mental health or trauma.
  • A student may need an evaluation for Special Education services.
  • There is a need for help navigating stress, anxiety, or school-related challenges.
