Counselors' Office
At Evanston Township High School, the Counselor’s Office is committed to supporting the academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary planning needs of every student. Counselors are critical partners in a student’s journey through ETHS. Our school counselors work closely with students and families to provide guidance throughout their high school experience—from the transition into Grade 9 through graduation.
Each student is assigned a counselor based on their grade level. Students generally remain with the same counselor throughout their time at ETHS, allowing for consistent support and relationship-building over four years.
What is the role of a school counselor?
A school counselor is a licensed educator who helps students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, and plan for life after high school. Counselors are advocates, mediators, mentors, and supporters. Counselors at ETHS provide support in the following areas:
Academic Support
- Course selection and class scheduling
- Support academic progress
- Ensure students are on track for graduation
- Coordination with teachers and academic intervention services
Social-Emotional Support
- Provide help with stress, relationships, or personal challenges
- Mental health support
- Individual check-ins and short-term counseling
- Crisis response and referrals to additional support
- Coordination with social workers, psychologists, and other grade-level team members
- Connect students to helpful resources inside and outside of school
Post-High School Planning
- College exploration and application support
- Career exploration and readiness planning
- Financial aid and scholarship resources
- Coordination with College & Career Services

Counselors
Our school counselors are assigned to specific grade levels. This allows them to build relationships and work closely with students and families over time.
Students can schedule an appointment with their counselor by visiting the Counselors' Office or by emailing their counselor directly. Families are also welcome to reach out by phone or email with questions or to schedule a meeting.
