Advisory
Advisory is a core part of the student experience at Evanston Township High School. It’s more than a study hall—it’s a dedicated, regularly scheduled period where students meet in a small group with a teacher-advisor to receive personalized support that extends beyond the classroom.
Each week, students engage in programming designed to support their academic progress, social-emotional development, and post-high school planning. Advisory helps students build strong relationships with trusted adults, connect with peers, and stay on track for success—both in high school and beyond.
Freshman Advisory Study Hall (FASH)
All Grade 9 students at ETHS are enrolled in Freshman Advisory Study Hall (FASH), a dedicated space for academic support and school connection. FASH is designed to help students successfully transition into high school by focusing on:
-
Building academic skills and study habits
- Getting involved in extracurricular activities
- Learning about school resources and tools
- Receiving social-emotional support
- Learn more about college and career pathways
FASH is taught by teacher-advisors who work closely with school counselors. Counselors are regularly present in FASH to lead workshops, check in with students, and provide guidance throughout the school year.
Sophomore Advisory Study Hall (SASH)
All Grade 10 students are enrolled in Sophomore Advisory Study Hall (SASH), a program that continues to support academic growth while engaging students in post-high school planning.
In SASH, students:
- Strengthen time management, organization, and self-advocacy skills
- Reflect on academic goals and personal growth
- Explore college and career pathways through early planning tools
- Stay engaged with extracurricular and leadership opportunities
- Maintain strong relationship with caring adults who know them well
SASH is facilitated by teacher-advisors with support from ETHS counselors and Student Services staff. Weekly sessions are designed to help sophomores stay on track and begin planning for the future with intention and confidence.

Why Advisory Matters
Advisory study halls give students regular, structured time to reflect, ask for help, and plan ahead. Whether students are adjusting to high school, building better habits, or beginning to think about life after high school, FASH and SASH provide a meaningful space for growth, ensuring that students have consistent, caring support from day one at ETHS.
