Academic Intervention

Academic Intervention Services at Evanston Township High School are designed to provide extra academic support to students who are struggling to meet Illinois State Learning Standards standards or are at risk of failing. As part of our school-wide support system, the Academic Intervention Team supports students to help strengthen their academic skills, improve their performance, and stay on track for graduation.

Academic Intervention Team

The Academic Intervention Team (AIT) is a group of academic advisors who assess academic progress and help students with greater academic needs get the support they need to succeed. AIT advisors are part of each student’s grade-level team.

AIT works with grade-level teams to identify students who may be struggling academically to provide early, proactive support. The team tracks academic performance, identifies patterns of concern, and coordinates interventions to help students get back on track.

In collaboration with the grade-level team, the AIT plays a key role in:

  1. Monitoring student academic performance
  2. Identifying patterns of academic concern
  3. Coordinating early, proactive interventions

AIT advisors are assigned to a specific grade level, allowing students to work with the same advisor throughout their time at ETHS.

What AIT Does

AIT advisors partner with students and families to:

  • Set academic goals and develop personalized plans for improvement
  • Build executive functioning skills like organization, time management, and study strategies
  • Monitor academic progress and help students reflect on strengths, challenges, and next steps
  • Provide motivation, mentorship, and accountability

How to Get Support

Students are typically referred to the Academic Intervention Team by their counselor. However, any student who feels they may benefit from academic intervention services is encouraged to speak with their counselor about this option or reach out to their class advisor. Families with questions or concerns are also welcome to contact their student’s counselor to learn more.
