Substance Use Prevention

At Evanston Township High School, we are committed to supporting the whole student—and that includes helping students make healthy choices and access help when they need it. As part of this commitment, we offer a comprehensive Student Assistance Program focused on substance abuse prevention that combines education, early intervention, and supportive services.

Our Approach

ETHS takes a proactive approach to substance use, grounded in care and support—not punishment. We understand that students may encounter stress, peer pressure, or other challenges that affect their choices. Our goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where students feel comfortable asking for help, accessing resources, and learning how to make healthy, informed decisions. We are here to support students and families every step of the way.

Get Support

Students can request support directly, or be referred by a staff member, friend, or family member. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to contact the Student Assistance Program (SAP) Social Worker if they have questions or concerns.

If you're worried about your student's substance use—or if you're simply unsure and need someone to talk to—please don’t hesitate to reach out. At ETHS, we approach these situations with care, not consequences. Our focus is on support, not punishment. Families are vital partners in helping students stay healthy and thrive, and no concern is too small.

We understand that asking for help can feel difficult, especially when stigma or fear of judgment gets in the way. But we want families to know: there is no shame in reaching out. Whether you're seeking guidance, resources, or just someone to talk to, our team is here to listen, collaborate, and help you navigate the next steps.
