Important: No Changes to Meal Access for Students
Dear Students and Families,
We understand that anticipated disruptions to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are causing concern for many families. Please know that every student at ETHS will always have access to school meals. Free and reduced-price meal plans will continue without interruption, regardless of delays in federal funding.
In addition, we will continue to offer an after-school meal free of charge to all students- regardless of their meal plan status- as part of our longstanding, year-round practice. After-school meals are available in the South Cafeteria on Mondays from 2:10-2:40pm and Tuesdays through Fridays from 3:35-4:05pm. Our after-school meal program is intended to support all students-whether they are participating in after-school activities, heading to work, or going home. All you need is your Student ID.
We also recognize that any disruption to food assistance can have a serious impact on families beyond school meals. ETHS is committed to keeping students and families informed about local resources and community programs that provide additional support in times of need:
- Food Accessibility and Assistance Programs (City of Evanston)
- Evanston Community Fridges
- Additional information about local food assistance programs can be found at FindHelp.org
Community Cares in partnership with the ETHS Community Service Office will host a Food Drive and Distribution on Sunday, November 16 from 9am-5pm. Food can be donated in Lots 1, 2A, or 3B from 9am-12pm (a shopping list can be viewed here). Families can shop for groceries in the Fieldhouse from 1-5pm, please enter through Lot 3B at the corner of Wildkit Drive and Church Street. All are welcome, no registration required, no questions asked.
Any family who needs support with food access should contact their student’s counselor for guidance and resources. We know this moment brings uncertainty for many of our families, and we remain committed to supporting students and families in all the ways we can.
Sincerely,
Quiana McNeal, EdD, JD
Principal
