Severe Weather Closures
ETHS is committed to ensuring the safety of students and staff. When weather conditions pose a safety risk, the district may need to adjust the school day. That could mean closing the building, using an E-Learning Day, or changing arrival or dismissal times.
Our goal is to keep school open whenever it is safe to do so. We carefully review all information available before making a decision and do our best to communicate with families as early as possible.
How Weather-Related Decisions Are Made
Decisions to close the school or adjust schedules due to weather are based on multiple factors, including:
-
Weather forecasts and real-time conditions (e.g. heavy snow, ice, extreme cold)
- Road and sidewalk safety for students and staff who walk, drive, or take public transportation
- Building operations and utilities (e.g. heating and power)
- Guidance from local and regional emergency management systems
- Coordination with District 65 and other area school districts
Whenever possible, ETHS aims to make closure or delayed start decisions by 6:30am or earlier.
