Report an Absence

If your student will miss school due to illness, an appointment, a family emergency, or another reason, a parent/guardian must report the absence as soon as possible.

How to Report an Absence

There are two ways to report a student’s absence. Both options are available 24 hours a day.

  • Online: Submit an Absence Request via myETHS:

    • Log in to myETHS using your parent/guardian username and password.
    • Navigate to Records and select Absence Request (Records > Absence Request)

Submit Absence Request

  • By Phone: Call the Attendance Line at (847)424-7800 to speak with a staff member or leave a voicemail message. When calling in an absence, please include:

    • Student’s full name and Student ID number
    • Date(s) and time(s) of absence(s)
    • Reason for the absence
    • Your name and relationship to the student
Important Information
  • Absences must be reported by a parent or guardian. Students are not permitted to report their own absences.
  • Parents/guardians have 72 hours to report a full-day excused absence.
  • Absence reports are not accepted via email.

Submitting an absence request does not automatically excuse the absence. For details on what qualifies as an excused absence or tardy, please see the Attendance Guidelines.
