Individualized Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)

At Evanston Township High School, we are committed to empowering every student with the tools to make thoughtful, informed decisions about their future after graduation. Our Individualized Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) guides and supports this process, serving as a personalized roadmap to help students discover their passions, align their goals, and prepare for life after high school. ICAP is the district’s initiative to ensure that all students develop and commit to a plan for their future.

SchooLinks is the platform ETHS uses to help students manage their ICAPs. It helps students and families set goals, explore options and opportunities, track their progress, and make plans for whatever comes after graduation. The ICAP process is divided into three phases:

Phase 1
Explore
Students discover their passions, preferences, and strengths. They learn about different careers, post-secondary options, and their own unique skills and interests.
Phase 2
Plan
Based on their exploration, students identify realistic goals and create a step-by-step plan to reach them. This includes choosing appropriate classes, mapping a path toward graduation, and preparing for life after ETHS.
Phase 3 Decide In the final phase, students make decisions about their future—whether that's applying to college, securing employment, or pursuing other opportunities. ICAP helps guide these choices and prepares them for a successful transition after high school.

It’s never too early—or too late—for students to start thinking about their future. This process takes time, but students do not need to do it all at once or on their own.

ICAP Checklists by Grade Level

ICAP To-Dos are available on SchooLinks. The ICAP process includes a series of tasks and checkpoints designed to keep students on track and engaged as they plan for their future. These to-dos guide their process, from exploring career options and setting goals to choosing classes, preparing for graduation, and making a successful transition after high school.

Students should aim to complete the tasks assigned for their grade level to make sure they’re staying on track. Tasks are marked as complete in SchooLinks as students make progress toward their goals. Students can work on their ICAPs at their own pace, with support from their counselor, advisor, and family.
