FAFSA: Apply for Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a key step in accessing financial aid for college, technical schools, or training programs after high school. Completing the FAFSA helps determine your eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans—financial support that can make your future education more affordable.
In Illinois, all public high school seniors must complete the FAFSA or the Illinois Alternative Application or submit a waiver by May 1 to meet state graduation requirements.
- FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): Apply for financial aid from federal, state, and college programs.
- Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid: An option for undocumented or non-citizen students who aren’t eligible for FAFSA but may still be eligible for state aid.
- Nonparticipation Form: If a family decides not to complete either application, they must submit a waiver form to meet the state’s graduation requirement.
