Getting to the Next Grade

At Evanston Township High School, students move to the next grade level by earning a minimum number of credits, as outlined by Board Policy. Grade-level promotion is designed to ensure that students are prepared for the next grade and, ultimately, for graduation.

Most students advance one grade each year after meeting the required standards. In rare cases, the professional staff may recommend retention or acceleration if it is in the best educational interest of the student.

Helping Your Student Meet Grade-Level Promotion Requirements

Families play an important role in helping students stay on track toward graduation.

  • Check academic progress regularly using Home Access Center. Keep track of grades and attendance.
  • Stay connected with teachers and counselors. If your student is struggling, reach out for support early.
  • Encourage healthy habits at home. Good sleep, attendance, and time management make a big difference in staying on track.
