Multilingual Education

The cultural and linguistic diversity that students bring to Evanston Township High School enriches every aspect of our learning community. The Multilingual Department supports students who are developing English language proficiency while also participating in a full range of academic coursework. In collaboration with families and staff, we ensure that every student can access a rigorous curriculum, be challenged, and thrive academically—while honoring and building on the rich cultural and linguistic assets they bring to school.

Through English Language Development (ELD) services, sheltered content classes, dual language programming, co-taught instruction, and targeted language support, students strengthen their academic English skills and continue to grow as critical thinkers and readers. Our goal is to empower multilingual learners to participate fully and meaningfully in school, graduate prepared for the future, and see their identities reflected and affirmed in their learning.

At ETHS, we believe language is not a barrier—it’s a strength. We are committed to creating learning environments where every multilingual student can reach their full potential.

Our program emphasizes:

  • Language development and academic success
  • Cultural pride and identity
  • Family partnership and support
  • Preparation for college and career pathways
