Academic Supports
At Evanston Township High School, we recognize that the path to academic success is different for every student—and that learning extends beyond the classroom. In addition to daily instruction, many students benefit from structured opportunities to reinforce skills, deepen understanding, and receive personalized support.
ETHS offers a variety of academic support programs tailored to meet diverse student needs. Whether students are seeking help with coursework, preparing for exams, or building effective study habits, these resources provide consistent and accessible support outside of class time.
Our Academic Supports are open to all students and reflect our ongoing commitment to educational equity, academic excellence, and student well-being.
You might benefit from academic support if:
- You’re falling behind on assignments
- You want to raise your grade
- You learn better with 1:1 support or small group study
- You want a quiet place to get work done
Asking for Help is a Step Forward
Need help? We’ve got you. We know that asking for help can feel hard. You might worry that you’re the only one struggling, that others will judge you, or that you “should” already understand. But the truth is: everyone needs support sometimes, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused about a unit in class, or just not sure where to start, our Academic Support programs are available to you. Learning is a process, and you don’t have to do it alone. By asking for help, you’re taking a step forward.
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
ETHS follows a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model that ensures all students receive the education and supports they need to be successful in school.
MTSS is a framework to provide tiered instruction and interventions across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning for all students. It uses data-based decision-making to identify student needs, offering universal instruction (Tier 1), targeted interventions (Tier 2), and intensive individual support (Tier 3) to ensure equitable and successful student outcomes.

Through MTSS, students may be referred to various supports and resources within ETHS. Some of the academic resources are listed below.

Your Academic Support To-Do List
-
Check in with yourself. Are you feeling stuck, confused, or falling behind in a class? It’s okay to ask for support!
-
Talk to your teacher or another staff member about how you are feeling. If it’s easier, send an email to your teacher to let them know you’re thinking about getting extra help on a subject or topic.
- Pick one Academic Support to try this week. Ask a staff member if you are not sure where to start or need help deciding. Teachers, coaches, librarians, and other staff can guide you to the right support.
- Set small goals. Focus on one class, one assignment, or one concept at a time. Every step forward counts.
- Come prepared. Make sure to bring your Chromebook, notes, assignments, or anything else you might need.
- Stick with it. Sometimes it takes a few visits or tries to start making progress. Keep showing up. You’ve got this.
