Physical & Wellness Education
At Evanston Township High School, our Physical & Wellness Education Department helps students build the knowledge, skills, and habits to maintain lifelong health and fitness. Courses focus on physical activity, wellness, nutrition, mental health, and overall well-being, preparing students to make informed choices about their health.
Daily Expectations
To get the most out of Physical and Wellness Education, students are expected to come prepared and actively participate in every class.
| Be Prepared for Class | |
|---|---|
| Be Ready to Participate | Students are expected to fully engage in every class. This includes participating in physical activities, following instructions, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. |
| Wear Your PE Uniform | All students must be dressed in an approved ETHS PE uniform and athletic shoes for every class. For details on the uniform requirements, see the PE Uniform Guidelines. |
| Come Prepared | Students should bring their heart rate monitor (HRM) bands or Chromebooks to P.E. when instructed by their teacher. We recommend keeping HRM bands in your PE locker to ensure it's ready for daily use. |
| No Cell Phones | Students are not permitted to bring cell phones to class. Phones should be secured in your PE locker for the duration of class. |
PE Guidelines

Physical Education Resource Center (PERC)
W133
PERC is a space for students who are unable to participate in PE class due to a medical exemption or who are unprepared for class (for example, not dressed in the required PE uniform). While in PERC, students complete assignments related to physical fitness, wellness, nutrition, and Driver’s Education.
Students must have a pass from a PE teacher or the school nurse to enter PERC. Students come to PERC for the following reasons:
-
Referred by their PE teacher (pass is required; no walk-ins allowed)
-
Unable to participate in physical activity due to a medical reason
-
Being unprepared for class (e.g. missing PE uniform)
-
Receiving academic support for PE class
-
Working on group projects
-
Making up or retaking assigned work or exams
Physical Activity Student Support (PASS)
G151
PASS provides students with an opportunity to make up missed PE classes during their free periods or lunch, helping them stay on track in PE in the event of an absence.
Expectations for PASS:
-
Students must scan in with their Student ID.
-
Students should arrive dressed in their PE uniform.
-
Students can earn up to 10 points for a full workout by maintaining their target heart rate for 20 minutes. One point is awarded for every two minutes spent in the target heart rate zone.
-
Students may only make up points for one class at a time. Those enrolled in multiple PE classes should inform the PASS supervisor upon arrival.
Not sure where your PE class is meeting today?
