English is a core academic subject that helps students become strong readers, writers, and thinkers. In English classes, students explore literature—from timeless classics to contemporary works—and learn how stories reflect different cultures, identities, and historical moments.

Students build essential skills in reading, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. They also learn to express ideas clearly, analyze texts deeply, and engage with the world through language. Our curriculum encourages students to find their voice, think critically, and grow as thoughtful, confident communicators—skills that support success in school, college, and beyond.

The History and Social Sciences Department at ETHS invites students to explore the complexities of the world—past and present—through critical inquiry, thoughtful discussion, and meaningful connection. Our courses encourage students to ask important questions: How has power shifted over time? Whose voices are heard in history—and whose are missing? What does it mean to be an engaged member of a global society?

Students examine a wide range of perspectives and experiences through core classes like World History and U.S. History, as well as electives in psychology, sociology, economics, and civics. Across all courses, students analyze primary and secondary sources, build evidence-based arguments, and make connections between historical events and current issues. These courses deepen students’ understanding of society and sharpen their ability to think critically and act with empathy in a diverse and interconnected world.

Mathematics at ETHS is about more than just numbers—it’s about problem-solving, logical thinking, and understanding the patterns that shape our world. From foundational courses like Algebra and Geometry to advanced classes such as Calculus and Statistics, students build the skills they need for college, careers, and everyday life. Our math curriculum encourages students to think critically, communicate their reasoning, and apply mathematical ideas to everyday life. ETHS also offers an interdisciplinary approach to math through innovative courses like Geometry in Construction and Algebra in Entrepreneurship, where students apply mathematical concepts in hands-on, collaborative projects that connect to real-world contexts.

With a focus on both conceptual understanding and practical application, ETHS math courses support all learners as they grow in confidence and develop the tools to tackle complex challenges with creativity and precision.

Physical & Wellness Education (P.E.) is about more than just fitness—it’s about empowering students to take charge of their health, build lifelong wellness habits, and strengthen both mind and body. Through a variety of movement-based courses, students develop physical skills, learn the value of teamwork and personal responsibility, and gain confidence in their abilities. ETHS offers a wide range of PE experiences, from team sports and strength training to dance, yoga, and personal fitness, allowing students to find activities they enjoy and can pursue throughout life.

Our program also includes comprehensive health education focused on physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, as well as Driver Education, which equips students with the knowledge and skills to be safe, responsible drivers. We also offer innovative courses that support post-high school success, such as our Sports Officiating class, where students can earn certifications to become licensed referees—a pathway to real-world opportunities. The Multilingual Services Department at ETHS supports students who are developing English language skills while honoring and building on the rich cultural and linguistic assets they bring to school. Multilingual Services support all culturally and linguistically diverse students so that they can participate equally and meaningfully in the classroom, succeed academically, and grow as confident, multilingual individuals.

Through sheltered and co-taught courses, emergent multilingual (EM) and multilingual learners receive targeted instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students explore academic subjects such as math, science, and history in ways that support language growth and understanding.

Science classes at ETHS spark curiosity and help students explore how the world works. Through hands-on labs, experiments, and inquiry-based learning, students investigate everything from the smallest atoms to the vastness of space.

Our science curriculum includes biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science, as well as advanced and interdisciplinary courses. The Special Education Department fosters inclusive learning environments where students with disabilities and diverse learning needs feel a sense of belonging and receive the support necessary for academic and personal success. Each student’s strengths and challenges are addressed through personalized instruction, accommodations, and targeted resources.

Through a comprehensive continuum of services and high-quality instruction, students with disabilities—ages 3–21 and eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)—receive individualized support that ensures access to grade-level content and state standards. The program empowers students to build essential skills for greater independence and meaningful post-high school opportunities.

The World Languages Department empowers students to communicate across cultures and deepen their understanding of the global community. Students can study seven different languages at ETHS: American Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish.

Learning another language builds more than communication skills—it fosters empathy, cultural awareness, and global citizenship. ETHS language classes emphasize speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while also exploring the rich traditions, histories, and perspectives of diverse communities.
