Discipline Improvement Plan

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) reviews discipline data from school districts across Illinois each year. As part of this review, districts may be identified based on discipline measures such as the use of out-of-school suspensions and expulsions or disparities in disciplinary outcomes over a three-year period.

ETHS was identified through this process as being among the top 20% of districts statewide in one or more of these measures. When a district is identified, Illinois law requires the district to develop and publicly share a Discipline Improvement Plan outlining steps to improve discipline practices and outcomes.

Our Approach

The ETHS Discipline Action Plan focuses on strategies to:

• Reduce the use of out-of-school suspensions and expulsions whenever possible
• Strengthen positive and proactive approaches to student behavior
• Promote fair, consistent, and supportive discipline practices
• Identify and address disparities in disciplinary outcomes
• Keep students engaged in learning and connected to their school community

Being identified through this process does not mean that ETHS schools are unsafe. Rather, the process provides an opportunity to examine our discipline practices and data, identify areas for growth, and strengthen the ways we support students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Our work includes building strong relationships between students and adults, using restorative and instructional approaches to address behavior, and partnering with families and the broader community.

We invite families, staff, and community members to review the district's Discipline Improvement Plan and learn more about our ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline practices and support positive outcomes for all students.
